A Message in Fire is part of the main story campaign, Jin's Journey, during Act 2: Retake Castle Shimura.

Synopsis[]

Jin Sakai must enlist the help of Lord Shimura's pirate contact, Goro, to sail past the Mongol armada and bring a message to the shogunate on the mainland to send additional samurai warriors to combat the Mongol invaders. If Goro can sober up, he will have at least a dozen enemy ships to get past, and a new weapon to deal with: the Hwacha – a siege weapon the Mongols brought with them from Goryeo (modern day Korea) that can fire 100-200 flaming projectiles from a handcart. Maybe Jin can find a way to use this new weapon against his enemies so Goro's ship can get past the fleet?

Objectives[]

  • Search for Umugi Cove
    • Look for a path with a circular gateway and red flowers
  • Follow the guard to meet Lady Sanjo
  • Speak with Lady Sanjo, then go downstairs and speak with Goro
  • Follow Goro to his house and take the map
  • Speak with the Straw Hat Ronin at the door, then leave Umugi Cove
  • Travel to Lord Shimura's old hunting camp and speak with him
  • Follow Lord Shimura to meet Goro at his boat
  • Follow Goro
  • Travel to Fort Mitodake with Lord Shimura
  • Ambush the Mongol patrol
    • Wait until Lord Shimura attacks
  • Attack Fort Mitodake
    • Focus on eliminating enemy archers with fire arrows before melee attacks, if you can. Roll (circle) if Jin catches on fire
  • Open the gates and continue the attack on Fort Mitodake
  • Fight to the hwacha tower
    • Pay attention to white circle on the ground as that's where the hwacha projectiles will land, dodge (circle) to avoid the projectiles as they greatly reduce Jin's health
  • Defend Goro's boat
    • Aim with the right stick – the white marker will help you alter the direction/trajectory– and shoot with R2
    • You must be quick: if 1 ship reaches Goro's boat, the objective fails and you'll have to start from the last checkpoint
    • Eliminate the first 6 ships, then focus your attack on the shore where archers will be shooting at Goro – focus the hwacha on the archers and yurts, then shift your attention to the 3 larger ships while looking out for a few smaller ships that are remaining

Journal entries[]

We need samurai reinforcements if we're going to save our home. The shogun can provide them, but only if we contact him to request more forces. Lord Shimura knows a pirate named Goro skilled enough to break through the Mongol blockade and deliver our request. I should be able to find him in the smuggler's den of Umugi Cove.
