The Adachi massacre was the assassination of the remaining members of Clan Adachi following the Mongol victory at the Battle of Komoda Beach. The attack was organized by several conspirators under the orders of Hana, the sister of the clan's matriarch Lady Masako.

Conspirators[]

Sogen: Sogen acted as a scout, as he visited the Adachi Estate the night of the Battle of Komoda Beach. He later began working as a sweeper at maintainer at the Golden Temple. He claimed that Clan Adachi were not allowing men of vision to face the changing world. He is killed by Masako Adachi and Jin and Masako are able to find a letter in his body containing a list of the conspirators of the massacre.

Sadao: Sadao was the former headman of Kuta farmstead and was appointed by Harunobu Adachi. He was removed from his position thanks to Masako Adachi, who found out he was trying to keep the rice to himself and refused to feed the starving workers. He died by Masako's blade, but his wife Hina was killed by his brother Hachi, who died at the hands of Mongols.

Mai: Mai is a thief and a former servant and lover of Masako Adachi. Masako's husband found her stealing and wanted her flogged but Masako saved her by banishing Mai. Mai however, thought of this banishment as a betrayal and accepts Hana´s offer of revenge. After the massacre, she stole many of the Clan's heirlooms that she wants to sell. Hana plans to betray and kill her but Mai is saved by Jin and Masako. Mai shows Masako where she has hidden the heirlooms and Masako spares her.

The Omura Brothers: Omura was a supplier of Clan Adachi until he cheated them out of their supplies and tried to blame Masako's son. Clan Adachi stopped their dealings with him and his family had to live on the streets, as he developed an alcoholism problem. He died 20 years later. His two sons were later contacted by Hana and were offered a position in the plot against Clan Adachi. Even though one of the brothers was reluctant at first, he was convinced after his sibling told him they could get out of Tsushima with the money. They provided the weapons used to kill Clan Adachi. One of the brothers wants to blackmail Hana, threatening to expose the plot if she doesn't give the brothers money. Hana agrees and sends some men for the agreement but the brothers are set up and killed by Hana's men, which are then cleaved down by Masako and Jin, who were watching nearby.

Kajiwara: Kajiwara was a retainer of Clan Adachi until Masako caught him beating his wife and daughter. He was immediately fired and his wife and daughter were offered refuge, but they returned to him after one day. He participated in the massacre by recruiting the bandits and killers that slayed Clan Adachi. His fishing hut was attacked by Mongols and unwilling to let his family be slaughtered by them he killed his own wife and daughter and hid in a nearby cliff. The Mongols were killed by Jin and Masako, who tracked down Kajiwara and confronted him. After hearing Kajiwara's hateful words, Masako struck him down. Kajiwara's words led Jin and Lady Masako to realize all conspirators had resentment against Clan Adachi and all had once close ties with the Clan.

Hana: Hana was Masako´s older sister and husband to Ikeda, she held remorse against Masako directly due to her arranging a loveless and abusing marriage, unbeknownst to Masako. She planned the attack to the Adachi Estate and faked her death in order to remove any suspicion Masako had on her. After aid from Junshin, Jin and Masako find her in Fort Kikuchi, were Masako and her sister have a last conversation before Hana commits suicide.

Aftermath[]

The massacre left Lady Masako the sole surviving member of Clan Adachi, wanting revenge. If not for this massacre, she probably would not have had helped Jin Sakai on his quest to rescue his uncle and eventually liberate Tsushima, as she was living peacefully with her family and wanted to leave her life as a warrior behind. The investigation lead by Jin and Masako left most of the conspirators and some of their family members dead. A new clan that Hana wanted to form was also disbanded due to all of their members being slaughtered at Hana's final stand.
