The Battle of Castle Kaneda was a battle between Jin Sakai and his allies against the Mongol garrison of Castle Kaneda. It started as a rescue of the captive jito Lord Shimura, but upon the jito's release, he commanded Jin and his allies to fight the Mongols off the fortress.

Battle[]

Seeking to rescue his uncle from the clutches of Khotun Khan, Jin prepared to do so by recruiting allies across the island: Yuna and her blacksmith brother Taka, Lady Masako, master archer Sensei Ishikawa, and his old friend and mercenary Ryuzo, who leads the Straw Hats. After Taka crafted Jin a special grappling hook that would allow him to scale the walls of Castle Kaneda, Jin called for his allies to begin the rescue mission. However, Ryuzo and his Straw Hat reinforcements never arrive, but Jin refuses to wait any longer and decides to commence the rescue without them.

After using his grappling hook to infiltrate the castle, Jin disables the alarm to avoid any Mongol reinforcements, and with the aid of his allies, battles his way through the castle into the inner keep. Just outside of the inner keep, however, Jin finds Ryuzo waiting for him. Ryuzo explains that the Khan has put a bounty on Jin; wanting to feed and protect his men, he and the Straw Hats have betrayed Jin for the Mongols. Jin pleads for his friend to reconsider, believing Lord Shimura will reward him and his men, but Ryuzo refuses to be sent on a suicidal charge like in the Battle of Komoda Beach. He and Jin then engage in a duel, with Jin emerging victorious.

Badly injured and outmatched by his old friend, Ryuzo calls for nearby Mongols to divert him and escapes the castle. After defeating the Mongols, Jin makes his way to the top floor of the main keep, where he kills Mongols guarding Lord Shimura and reunites with his uncle. Lord Shimura explains that Khotun has left the castle to conquer Toyotama, and orders Jin to help him retake Castle Kaneda from the remaining Mongols. With the help of Jin's allies, the castle is successfully retaken and the remaining Mongols are killed.
