From the Darkness is part of the main story campaign, Jin's Journey, during Act 2: Retake Castle Shimura.
Synopsis[]
Lord Shimura wants to stick with the bushido code and go face-to-face with more overwhelming numbers of Mongol enemies, which will most likely end the same way as the Battle of Komoda Beach, with everyone dead. Jin Sakai knows there is an alternative, but it goes against the samurai way and his uncle's orders, as it involves poisoning the Mongols’ favorite drink: fermented milk. Desperate to rid the castle of his enemies, Jin sneaks into the main grounds of the castle to reach his goal, but are the potential consequences of his actions worth the trouble?
Objectives[]
- Speak with Yuna
- She will give you the Ghost Armor to wear during the mission
- Infiltrate the first keep of Castle Shimura
- Grapple across the bridge to reach the large rocks in the middle of the river
- Climb on the fallen tree, jump towards the cliff then continue around the right side of the castle grounds, climbing rocks and grappling when necessary
- Eliminate the Mongols inside the first keep without raising the alarm
- Survey the Mongol defense
- Sneak through the Garden
- Jump down to the 2nd floor roof and use the rope lines to walk towards the waypoint at the next gate
- Assassinate the archer standing on the lookout tower
- Jump down behind the shack and squeeze through the gap
- Poison the Mongols' fermented milk
- If an alarm is raised, it will fail the objective and you will have to begin at the last checkpoint
- Eliminate the first enemy standing on the half wall to your left
- Continue towards the left side, hop over the stairs and eliminate the enemy near the yurt (ignore the guard patrolling right in front of the stairs as he never looks behind him)
- Use your Focused Hearing for another enemy who patrols between the front of the yurt and a pile of logs (eliminate him as he stops next to the logs if you want to avoid anyone seeing his body)
- Head towards the first batch of fermented milk and wait for the guard to walk the other way, press
to poison this batch - Move to the next batch of fermented milk - again, wait for the guards to look/walk away, then poison the 2nd batch
- Wait and watch the cutscene
- Enter the main keep to confront the Khan
- Defeat Ryuzo
- Ryuzo is stronger now than during your first duel, but he's still easy to defeat, as long as you pay attention and be patient
- You'll enter a series of cutscenes that will bring you to Kamiagata and into Act 3: Kill the Khan with the quest, Honor and Ash.
Journal Entry[]
The first day of battle ended in a bloody stalemate. Lord Shimura insists on pressing forward at dawn, but I know there's another way.
