Ghosts from the Past is part of the main story campaign, Jin's Journey, during Act 2: Retake Castle Shimura.
Synopsis[]
Jin Sakai returns to his family's estate in an attempt to recover his father's armor. As he reunites with Yuriko and Taichi, memories of his youth flood his mind. He visits his father's grave, reminisces with his old caretaker and even learns a few things about his family's past. Jin asks Yuriko for help making a blowgun, but it needs reeds that are found by the river near an old village that has been overrun with Mongol soldiers. Jin also asks Yuriko about the plants she uses to help kill vermin and if the plants can be used to help kill the Mongols. Yuriko is hesitant at first, citing that poison is not honorable to Clan Sakai, but eventually helps Jin make a stronger version of the rat poison to use with the blowgun darts.
Objectives[]
- Travel to Omi Village and enter the Sakai Estate
- Look for your father's armor
- Follow Yuriko, meet Taichi and visit your father's grave
- Pay your respects by composing a Haiku
- Head back to your ancestral home and put on your father's armor
- Defeat the Straw Hat Ronin
- Three (3) Straw Hat Ronin will call for you outside the gates of the estate, head out and defeat them (the Sakai Clan Armor grants a Standoff bonus)
- Speak with Yuriko and follow her to the training grounds near Omi Lake
- Travel to the old crossing to collect the reeds needed to make a blowgun
- Gather the Reeds
- Kishibe Village has been taken over as a Mongol Territory – you can choose to either gather the reeds under the bridge without being seen or liberate the camp by defeating the Mongols and their leader then gather the reeds under the bridge
- If players already liberate Kishibe Village before starting the tale, Yuriko will instead direct Jin to an old fisherman hut by Omi Lake. A group of bandits will await there, which Jin must deal with before gathering reeds.
- Return to Yuriko
- You can fast travel back to Omi Village
- Follow Yuriko to a small, hidden camp and gather the marked, purple flowers (0/3)
- Poison a Straw Hat with your blowgun
- Test your new weapon: look over the edge of the hill and shoot the poison dart at any of the three (3) Straw Hats down below
- Return to Yuriko
- Before tackling A Reckoning in Blood, it's best to complete Yuriko's two (2) side tales: The Proud Do Not Endure and The Art of Seeing
Journal Entry[]
I haven't been home since the invasion. It's time I return to Omi Village and recover my father's armor, if it hasn't been stolen by Mongols or bandits already. I hope my people managed to evacuate for safety. Especially Yuriko, my family's caretaker.
