I found a peaceful home filled with women who claimed to serve a samurai. I met him briefly and doubted every word that left his mouth.
― Jin Sakai

Jinroku is a boss available encountered in the Tale "The Other Side of Honor" in the Izuhara region. Much like other bosses, he initiates a fight with Jin Sakai in the Duel at the Kashine Onsen; however unlike any of Jin's other opponents, Jinroku only engages Jin as a bluff and immediately runs away after starting the duel. After the events of the tale, Jinroku is never encountered again.

The Other Side of Honor[]

After the death of the samurai Lord Higuchi, the peasant Jinroku acquires his saddle and a set of samurai armor, which he dons and saddles a farm horse in order to pass himself off as a samurai. He soon comes across a village of women in Kashine, where his grandiose stories of heroism amuse its people such that they humor his antics and provide him a place to stay. Furthermore, he manages to acquire a katana and tanto set to complete his disguise as a samurai.

At some point in time, the samurai Jin Sakai arrives at the village, curious about the stories regarding Jinroku who seemingly survived the Battle of Komoda Beach which wiped out all the samurai on the island. Jinroku speaks with Jin about the events of the Komoda Beach, however he mistakenly refers to the battle taking place at Komatsu, which incites Jin's suspicion. Realizing his mistake, Jinroku quickly leaves the village once Jin is on his way to a bath, however he is soon tracked and chased by Jin after he recognizes Lord Higuchi's stolen saddle and Jinroku's farm horse.

After the pair reach a dead end near the Carved Mountain Hot Spring, Jinroku bluffs by challenging Jin to a duel, however he quickly cowers in fear when Jin shows no signs of hesitation. Pleading for his life, Jinroku admits to his lies and promises to leave the village in Kashine forever. Jin spares his life, but threatens to kill Jinroku if he ever poses as a samurai again.

Trivia[]

  • Jinroku seems to have some level of competence in swordsmanship, as he is seen ready to draw his katana with the same skill as all of Jin's other opponents in duels who use Japanese kenjutsu.
  • The quest The Other Side of Honor is only one of two quests in the game where Jin does not fight; the other being the This Threefold World. Furthermore, Jinroku is also the only opponent whom forfeits immediately after a duel.
  • The armor Jinroku wears belongs to Clan Shimura.
  • Lord Higuchi's stolen saddle seems to be “Cloudless Dash,” which would indicate that he was a retainer for Clan Adachi.
