Kajiwara was a fisherman and former servant of Clan Adachi. He was also one of the conspirators responsible for the Adachi massacre.
Biography[]
Kajiwara grew up as a fisherman, and was thought to be a loving husband and father to his wife and daughter. He worked as a retainer for Clan Adachi, being skilled and dependable. However, Masako Adachi soon discovered that Kajiwara was actually a cruel and vicious man, being quick to anger. She and Clan Adachi excused his behavior due to his skill until Masako caught him beating his wife and daughter. An outraged Masako dismissed him from the Clan and offered his wife and daughter refuge, but they returned to him within a day.
Seeking vengeance for his banishment, Kajiwara joined a conspiracy led by Lady Hana to exact revenge on Clan Adachi. His part in the conspiracy was recruiting the men who ultimately slaughtered Clan Adachi. Satisfied with his revenge, Kajiwara went to a fishing hut along with his family, where he took the occupation of a fisherman. Unbeknownst to Kajiwara and the other conspirators, however, Masako had survived the onslaught and recruited Samurai Jin Sakai to seek vengeance against her family's killers. Once Masako had identified Kajiwara as one of the conspirators, she and Jin set out to confront him.
Meanwhile, Kajiwara's hut alongside the beaches came under attack by the Mongols, while he and his family were still inside. Unwilling to allow his family to be savaged by the raiders, Kajiwara mercy killed his own wife and daughter and fled from the arriving Mongols, hiding near the side of a cliff. He managed to evade the Mongols, who were then killed by Masako and Jin, but the two managed to locate Kajiwara after deducing he was responsible for his family's deaths. Kajiwara attempts to lie that the Mongols were responsible, but Masako and Jin see through this and confront him for his involvement in the Adachi massacre.
Masako demands to know who hired Kajiwara to recruit the assassins that slaughtered her family and offers him a quick death if he does. Kajiwara merely replies that the conspirator leader knew how it felt to be driven to poverty and ruined by Masako. He continues to go on a hate-filled rant on how Masako's actions took a toll on his family, but is finally silenced when Masako angrily cuts him down.
Though unable to get any further information from him, Kajiwara's death and actions led Jin and Masako to deduce that the conspirators' motivations were all out of hatred for Clan Adachi, prompted by past connections to them.
