Masks are vanity items that Jin Sakai can equip under the mask portion of the Gear menu. They are purely cosmetic and grant no additional bonuses.
Masks are acquired in a number of ways: completing a Tale, purchased from a merchant or collected in the open world. Although the locations of the mask will not appear in the open world, with a technique point The Guiding Wind can be configured to navigate Jin to Vanity gear, which includes masks, along with helmets, headbands, hats and sword kits.

- Many of the masks Jin wears are known as menpō, a common part of Samurai armor that had the intended purpose of not only protecting the face, but also serving as a way to secure their helmets, and (for some) acting as psychological warfare that made the wearer appear to be a monster rather than a person.
