The people of Yarikawa beg for their enemies to die...
and the spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance answers their calls with the "Dance of Wrath..."
― Jin Sakai

The ”Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance” was the moniker of an unknown warrior woman who hailed from Clan Yarikawa. Mastering the Dance of Wrath technique, she masquerades as a spirit of vengeance, seeking to avenge the people of Yarikawa after their unsuccessful rebellion against Lord Shimura. For an unknown amount of time, people of Old Yarikawa came into a sort of contractual existence with the "Spirit", where a person can supposedly leave offering in designated places along with a message to state their request to the spirit. The prayers vary from eradicating Mongols, to executing someone for highly personal offense; though the spirit seems to act only to ones within Yarikawa's interest.

The woman lives in an abandoned house where she prepares for her tasks and writes her messages; some of these writings imply an attempt to manipulate the people of Yarikawa into believing both the Spirit and the virtue in avenging Yarikawa.

The spirit met her end at the hands of Jin Sakai, whom she staged into a ritualistic duel. Jin criticizes her use of the Dance of Wrath for her vengeful crusade, and vows to use it as it should - against the Mongol Soldiers.

Trivia[]

  • In the English voice and subtitles, the spirit is presumed male up until the reveal in the end.
  • It was never confirmed who prayed for Jin Sakai's death to the spirit, though the notes found in the Garden of Gods implies that the spirit feigned an anonymous prayer that she actually wrote herself in order to give the impression that the Yarikawa community supports vengeance against the Sakai clan.
  • In Ghost of Tsushima: Legends the Disciples of Iyo don the same outfit as The Spirit.
