The Swordsmith is a vendor found throughout the more established settlements of Tsushima. He will help improve the "Sakai Steel," specifically the Sakai Katana and Sakai Tanto.

Description[]

The Swordsmith is one of the basic vendors, found at strongholds and established points of refuge. In exchange for Supplies, he will offer his services in improving your blades to be sharper and deadlier. Improving the Katana will improve damage in combat, while improving the Tanto will make Jin stealthier.

The Swordsmith is recognizable for the Eboshi hat he wears, together with the grey hakama and a white kimono top. Be it outdoors or indoors, the Swordsmith will be near some kind of fire pit. When outside, he will have bags of coal and an assortment of wood resoruces prepared to fuel the fire. He will be hammering away at a piece of hot metal until approached by the player.

Vendor[]

The Swordsmith only offers upgrade to the Katana and Tanto, each of which serves different purposes.

Sakai Katana[]

Upgrading the Katana increases any form of damage done when using the Katana in battle. This does not affect Stagger damage, as that is modified by the Stance mechanic.

While there are only seven (7) levels in the base game, New Game+ grants an additional upgrade level.

Sakai Tanto[]

Upgrading the Tanto helps Jin assassinate enemies faster and produce less sound during them. Without upgrades, Jin will struggle to kill his enemies fast enough, allowing them to cry out in pain as they die. When fully upgraded though, Jin will be able to swiftly kill an enemy with one stab with the blade.
