The Ghost! Khotun will reward me for your head.
― General Temuge
General Temuge (テムゲ百戸長; Temuge Hyakkochō) is tertiary antagonist and a general in the Mongol Empire and part of the invasion force. He leads the Mongol forces during the Siege of Yarikawa.
Biography[]
Temuge rose through the ranks of the Mongol Soldiers as one of Khotun Khan's best generals and his own enforcer. During the invasion of Tsushima, Temuge is assigned by Khotun to take Yarikawa. His Mongol war band sieges the Yarikawa Stronghold. Temuge personally approaches the front gate and speaks to the Yarikawa clan, having learned their language. He offers to show them mercy if they submit to him, but if they do not, he threatens to show them terrible misery. Temuge then leaves to give them time to decide their future.
Once it becomes clear that the Yarikawa clan will not surrender, Temuge launches a full-scale attack on the settlement. The Mongols are able to breach the walls and attack the inside of the Yarikawa Stronghold, but suffer heavy loses at the hands of Jin Sakai, who destroys Temuge's siege weapons. Temuge personally joins the battle, and begins killing Yarikawas inside the inner keep until Jin confronts him and challenges him to a duel.
Recognizing Jin Sakai as the Ghost of Tsushima and remembering the reward Khotun put out for his head, Temuge accepts the challenge. Being a formidable shieldsman, Temuge is able to hold his own again Jin. After Jin inflicts an injury on Temuge, he advises the General to be careful, since he can't get Khotun's reward if he's dead. Temuge dismisses the injury as a lucky blow and declares that Jin will not get another. He starts using incendiary oil to light his blade on fire, but suffers several more injuries by Jin, who offers to consider showing mercy to Temuge if he leaves Tsushima now. Temuge instead declares that Yarikawa will burn and continues fighting.
As the General is worn down, Jin states that Temuge has killed many different soldiers in many different countries, but he will die here. Temuge calls Jin a "Zulbasag" meaning “Bastard” and continues to fight, until the General is defeated by the Ghost. As a bloodied Temuge staggers towards his men, he lets out a message to tell them to run and inform the Khan about their defeat. Jin then impales the General through his back before beheading him in front of his men. His death has a psychological impact on the Mongols, who begin to believe that Jin is more than a man but a demon. This killing marks the creation of the Ghost Stance, a stance that Jin uses to terrify Temuge's forces into fleeing Yarikawa.
