The Broken Blacksmith is part of the main story campaign, Jin's Journey, during Act 1: Rescue Lord Shimura.
Synopsis[]
Jin meets up with Yuna in Azamo and finds her in the middle of a discussion with Kenji, a sake brewer and an old friend of hers, and her brother, Taka. Kenji is afraid their plan will not work, but Jin convinces him to help out. Kenji has been delivering sake to the Mongols at Azamo Bay since they invaded and their plan is for Jin to hide in his cart and sneak in to rescue Taka, who happens to be the best blacksmith in Tsushima.
Knowing the Mongols kill hostages without hesitation if they are being openly attacked, Yuna urges Jin that they should enter Azamo Bay as quietly as possible and not be seen, in order to prevent any soldiers from setting off an alarm. Once inside, they climb up on a roof to survey the area, find a slaver inspecting prisoners, and follow him through enemy territory in the hopes he will lead them to Taka. After a short while, the slaver has a conversation with a peasant man about the fact that Taka is purposely doing shoddy work and that the peasant is also a blacksmith, so the slaver wants to replace Taka with his man instead. Jin and Yuna must reach Taka first and continue following the slaver until he reaches Taka. When Yuna kills the slaver, Taka is clearly frightened of leaving, but Jin convinces him to leave with them.
They must sneak out of Azamo Bay and meet Kenji at a crossroads nearby, to Taka's surprise. They come across Mongols on horseback, so Jin and Yuna decide to attack them and steal their horses so they can leave Azamo as quickly as possible.
As they reach Archer's Rise, they are able to survey Komatsu Forge below, knowing the forge is the best on the island, and the best place for Taka to make Jin a tool needed to scale the walls at Castle Kaneda to rescue his uncle. Yuna is relieved to have her brother back, so they agree to rest before finding somewhere to lay low and plan to take back Komatsu Forge from the Mongols.
