The Delicate Art of Negotiation (Kenji Tale 3 of 3) is a side tale during Act 2: Retake Castle Shimura.
Synopsis[]
Jin meets Kenji near the entrance to Umugi Cove, where he is clearly in distress. Upon being questioned, Kenji reveals that he needs Jin's help again, as he owes a large sum of money to "Gon the Butcher", a dangerous criminal. Jin asks why, and Kenji explains that he and Gon had arranged to sell food and medicine to survivors at inflated prices but then Gon discovered that Kenji had been skimming off the top of their profits. He claims to have done so only so that the money could be donated to the survivors; Jin takes this as evidence that Kenji has been working on his promise to help others before himself.
He agrees to act as Kenji's bodyguard as he goes to meet Gon in the marsh, since Kenji claims that at most, Gon will only put a price on his head if he's angry with him. During their ride over, Jin continues to ask questions; he learns that Kenji has already cheated Gon of money on two previous occasions and retorts when Kenji jokes about how "trouble follows him" that he should understand why that is. Shortly before they reach the meeting place, Kenji asks Jin to stay hidden unless he says the code phrase "I'm so happy to see you".
As Kenji walks to the meeting, Jin circles the area and finds armed henchmen concealed and waiting. He assassinates most of them just in time, as Gon reveals his intention to murder Kenji for deceiving him. Kenji speaks the code phrase and Jin comes to his aid, killing Gon and his remaining men. He wonders why Gon would bring such a large group just as flaming arrows start to rain down, revealing that Mongol soldiers are lying in wait to capture him. After defeating the war party, Jin and Kenji part ways as Kenji promises to stop getting himself into bad situations.
