The Sensei and the Student is the second Ishikawa Tale in Ghost of Tsushima.

Synopsis[]

Jin goes to Sensei Ishikawa's dojo to pursue Tomoe. Ishikawa had heard of Mongol archers training at the tower near Castle Lookout Hot Spring; the two travel to there and notice a target from afar. Ishikawa tells Jin to go investigate there; and as Jin is doing so, he is ambushed by a few Mongols and their guard dog. He kills them with no help from the sensei, despite him looking from afar. This causes a brief argument where Jin realizes that Ishikawa knew that the Mongols were still in the tower, but the sensei dismisses the argument, saying that it was training. His justification for this is if Jin cannot handle the Mongols, he would not be able to handle Tomoe either.

Jin and Ishikawa track some nearby footprints to a house where there are some Mongol forces and a Mongol captain holding prisoners. Jin dispatches of the Mongols and frees the prisoners. He asks them if a Japanese woman was seen with the Mongols. The prisoners respond that they did and they were headed to Hiyoshi Springs.

Ishikawa notices Jin's style of combat and tells him that it's neither his nor Shimura's training. Jin responds by saying that he does what he has to do, and the sensei becomes hesitant in continuing training Jin, as he does not want to train another monster. Jin assures him that that won't happen.

Sensei Ishikawa and I learned that his former student, Tomoe, has sided with the Mongols. He asked me to meet him at his dojo so we can continue the hunt to track her down.
― Jin's journal

Sensei Ishikawa's traitorous former student, Tomoe, is training Mongol archers in Hiyoshi. This frightens the sensei, though he tries to hide it. If we don't find her and end this, there may be no stopping the archers, and no hope for Hiyoshi.
