The Way of the Flame used in-game against a Ronin
The Way of the Flame is a mythic ability earned from completing The Undying Flame which involves Jin Sakai using incendiary oil to light his katana on fire. By doing this, Jin's damaging attacks become unblockable and inflict burning that will cause enemies to panic as they receiving burning damage. The Way of the Flame is known to the Mongols, and Jin learns it from Bettomaru, a descendent of its inventor whose ancestors had built a dojo on Mount Jogaku which he awaits worthy students in.
Way of the Flame requires the use of incendiary oil, and has a limited duration per stock (roughly 8 seconds). However, you can purchase incendiary oil from Trappers or find them laying around Mongol camps.
In Legends, the Way of the Flame is a random perk that can be acquired on the Katana.

Storage capacity for the Way of the Flame can be upgraded at any Trapper throughout Tsushima. Rank IV becomes available in New Game+

Charms[]
It is possible to upgrade Way of the Flame by equipping Charms sold by Baku the Voiceless:
- "Charm of Steadfast Fire" will greatly increase the duration of Way of the Flame, from around 8 seconds to 20 seconds
- "Charm of Blazing Flame" will increase damage dealt while Way of the Flame is active, while Heavy Attacks during Way of the Flame will burn nearby enemies whenever they land
- If the Charm of Steadfast Fire is the only minor melee charm equipped, the Charm of Versatile Skills will allow the Way of the Flame to be increased even further to around 40 seconds.
- During Jin's duel with Bettomaru, the Way of the Flame is activated by striking a katana against a piece of meteorite; this requires no ammunition of any sort; however, from that point onwards the Way of the Flame can only be activated if Jin has Incendiary Oil ammunition
- The Duel with Bettomaru is also the only duel in the game where Jin is allowed to access the Way of the Flame
